GTA 2: respect, payphones and a prepared city run
Unlock gang work and learn Downtown’s useful connections before accepting longer jobs.
Check respect before taking work
Finding a phone is only part of GTA 2’s job system. Gangs respond to whom you work for and whom you attack; their respect affects both available work and your reception in their neighbourhood. Read the meters before driving through hostile territory. Begin with accessible green-phone jobs and work towards harder assignments. Avoid shooting random gang members when you are trying to unlock their work. A short route through a friendlier neighbourhood can be more practical than a direct line through a hostile group of armed pedestrians.
Turn exploration into preparation
In Downtown, learn the phone locations, the vehicle crusher and the save location marked Jesus Saves. Use a quiet gap between assignments to save and plan the next route. Remember stairs and pedestrian approaches: you cannot necessarily drive all the way to every receiver. Leave your car at the bottom with a clear departure route. Bring a suitable weapon and armour before accepting work that sends you into a guarded courtyard. A prepared approach is particularly useful when the destination is above street level or behind a building.
Follow instructions, not only arrows
A job can require a horn signal, a passenger or getting out under a crane. Cop Car Crush demonstrates those distinctions. Another job requires a guarded site’s back entrance even though your first approach leads towards the main gates. Read new messages completely. On PC, F7 repeats the latest message and F9 repeats your current location; modified bindings and console controls differ. If an attempt goes wrong, do not automatically overwrite a useful starting save with its failed state.
