Identify the correct assignment
This is Trey’s green Zaibatsu assignment in the Downtown District. Cop Car Crush! starts at the green phones in Omnitron and concerns the informant Shady. Do not confuse it with the later Krishna assignment in the Industrial District, which can also be called Cop Car Crush! on PC. That job involves several police cars; this one requires a particular car and a passenger. Sources disagree about which receiver to answer. Gavin Ripley’s PlayStation FAQ specifies the upper phone, while David Newton’s PC FAQ says the lower one. The wiki also says upper. This does not establish one reliable rule for every edition. Confirm the title and briefing: Trey sends you to the police station in Zarelli and then to Shady at Avalon train station. That combination identifies the job more reliably than “upper” alone.
Preparation and useful landmarks
Green-phone work is the easier assignment tier, but you still need sufficient respect from the relevant gang. Check the Zaibatsu meter if the required call is unavailable. Randomly attacking Zaibatsu members while preparing can make access to this very assignment harder. Your useful landmarks are the phone building and its stairs, Zarelli police station, Avalon train station and the Zaibatsu crusher in northeast Zarelli. Leave your initial vehicle at street level below the phones. Claude can climb to answer without bringing a car upstairs. Remember how to return to the road; that is more practical than spending time manoeuvring a getaway vehicle up a pedestrian staircase.
Step by step: the car and Shady
The sequence matters. The crusher should only become your destination after Shady is actually travelling with you.
- Answer the ringing green Zaibatsu phone and read Trey’s opening message. Return to your vehicle and follow the mission arrow to the indicated police station in Zarelli.
- Locate the parked, marked Cop Car there. This route does not require provoking a moving police patrol or luring an officer out first. Take the provided car and leave the parking area without starting an unnecessary fight.
- Drive this police car to Avalon train station. Stop at the pickup point indicated by the arrow near the station approach. The older PC mission guide also describes a manhole cover as a useful positional landmark.
- With the vehicle stationary, use its horn/siren function. Claude should remain inside. The signal attracts the informant; firing a weapon or merely driving past does not perform the same interaction.
- Let Shady approach and get fully into the car. Wait for the next instruction directing you to the crusher before accelerating. If he remains outside, correct the position slowly without driving into him.
Step by step: hand the vehicle to the crane
From this point onward, the occupied police car is your mission object. Switching to a different vehicle does not perform the delivery.
- Drive to the indicated Zaibatsu Car Crusher in North-East Zarelli. Avoid shortcuts through crowds or narrow gaps between fixed obstacles: a collision with Shady aboard does not bypass any required objective.
- Line up the police car beneath the crane’s pickup position and stop completely. Simply being somewhere inside the scrapyard is insufficient; the car must enter the intended collection area.
- Get out yourself and walk clear of the immediate working space. Shady remains inside the police car. The crane takes over after this handover; Claude is not supposed to stay in the driving seat for the crushing.
- Allow the crane and crusher sequence to run and wait for Job Complete. Do not shoot the car, push it away or attempt to re-enter while it is being collected.
Troubleshooting
On PC, the original manual specifies F7 to display the last message again and F9 to repeat the current area name. PlayStation uses its own corresponding functions rather than PC function keys.
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| The station remains the destination. | Check the pickup position, horn signal and passenger entry. An empty police car is not a completed pickup. |
| Shady reaches the car but does not enter. | Remain stationary, leave the access side clear and avoid moving the car toward him. |
| The crane will not react. | Check that this is the indicated crusher, the vehicle is in its pickup area and Claude has exited. |
| The car or passenger is lost beforehand. | Treat the attempt as failed. Delivering an arbitrary replacement car afterward does not restore the earlier objective sequence. |
FAQ: retries and preserving progress
Do I need to attack the police station? No; the mission-specific PC and PlayStation guides identify a parked car. Should I shoot Shady at the end? No; handing the occupied car to the crane is the required finish. After failure, you can accept the assignment again if its phone and your respect permit, or load an earlier save. Starting a fresh district does not automatically give you a useful saved preparation point. Save outside an active job at Jesus Saves; on PC, saving requires 50,000 in-game dollars. Check for confirmation before quitting rather than assuming that visiting the sign was sufficient. This guide compares PC and PlayStation references. Dreamcast has not been independently checked, and the Game Boy Color adaptation is excluded.
